Thomas Davis turned on the style in the second-half as they defeated Ballyboden St Enda’s by 4-17 to 0-15 in their Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Minor ‘C’ Hurling Championship final at Kiltipper Road on Sunday morning.
The hosts trailed by five points at the break but three goals in quick succession in the early stages of the second-half turned the tide irrevocably in Thomas Davis’ favour.
There were some strong individual displays by the visitors in the first-half with goalkeeper Luke Kilmurray making an exceptional double save while Charlie White and Matthew Casey were others to shine in a defensive capacity.
Full-forward Conor Fitzgerald kept the Ballyboden scoreboard ticking over with eight points, five coming from open play, and the likes of Ben Daly, Ben Connell, Daire Bermingham and Niall Rossiter all chipped in as the away side finished the half with seven unanswered scores.
The tide turned after the break as Thomas Davis full-forward Ryan Dunne scored a hat-trick of goals with their lively inside-forward line completed by Aidan Murray (0-2) and Ger Russell (1-0).
St Enda’s continued to battle through their midfield pairing of Evan McCabe and Tadgh Hutchinson but the hosts pulled away by the final whistle with Oscar Lane, Jack O’Connor (0-3), Darragh Tipping (0-5), Nathan Sadlier, Jamie Staunton and Feehin Sinnott all to the fore.
At Somerton Park, Harry O’Donnell scored seven points as Raheny defeated Castleknock by 1-12 to 1-5 to claim the MHC ‘D’ title.
Liam Kelly netted the all-important goal for the visitors, who did enough to prevail courtesy of further scores by Mark Lane, Oisín Kelly, Ryan Farnell and Evan Brady.
The hosts stayed in the hunt through a Killian McGrail goal and points from Ben Finney but their contributions and those of Jamie Brogan, Eoin Casey, Christian Flood, Shane Bacon, Daniel Brady, Jim O’Shea and Manus Connolly proved in vain by the final whistle.
Raheny were unable to double up in the ‘E’ decider as Round Towers Clondalkin scored goals at crucial times on their way to a 5-6 to 1-5 success at Monastery Road.
The foundation for their victory was provided at the back through the collective efforts of Daithí Liptrop, Fionn Downey, Dave Manning and their captain Adam Flood.
The visitors battled throughout with their midfield pairing of Ruadhan Fidgeon and Alex Daly typifying their work rate while Bill Beary, Padraig Clare and Joel Kearns all impressed in the Raheny defence.
They gained reward for their efforts through a goal from Jack Hamill and further scores from Ernie Neff, Fidgeon and Clare with Joe Murphy and Cathal Ó Braoin also featuring prominently over the hour.
However, Towers held the aces up front through the goal-scoring prowess of full-forward Josh Adams and with Finn Dwyane on target from placed balls, they secured the win thanks to strong personal displays by Aaron Carroll, James Murphy and Cillian Davis.
MHC ‘C’ final: Thomas Davis 4-17 Ballyboden St Enda’s 0-15.
MHC ‘D’ final: Castleknock 1-5 Raheny 1-12.
MHC ‘E’ final: Round Towers Clondalkin 5-6 Raheny 1-5.
