Round Up of the weekends Go-Ahead Ireland Senior 2 Football Championship Action
Mon, 25 August 2025

The Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship commenced on Saturday evening with St Oliver Plunkett’s/Eoghan Ruadh picking up two precious points as they edged Naomh Olaf by 0-16 to 0-14 at Páirc Uí Bhriain.

The visitors trailed by 0-12 to 0-7 at the break but the introduction of Ted Furman helped turn the tide in Plunkett’s’ favour with the former Ballymun Kickhams player kicking four points.

The performances of both Sean Bugler (0-3) and Conor Tyrrell (0-2) were pivotal in the visitors getting over the line and with Luke Hughes adding four points, they did enough to prevail through further scores by Ben McSweeney, Irinel Popa and Cillian Hayes.

The other match in Group 1 also saw the away team register a two-point success as St Brigid’s pipped St Maur’s by 1-12 to 1-10 in Rush.

In Group 2, there was another brace of away wins with Erin’s Isle picking up an impressive 1-18 to 0-17 win over Naomh Barróg.

Across in Saggart, Fingallians finished on the front foot as they narrowly got the better of St Mary’s by 0-16 to 0-15.

There was little to separate the sides throughout as they entered the break deadlocked at 0-8 apiece with Derek Rodgers kicking an excellent two-point score early on to help settle the visitors while Fins goalkeeper Andy Newbanks converted a two-point free.

The hosts looked to have done enough to prevail as they edged three points clear in the 58thminute but Fingallians dug deep to kick the next two points before Oisín Lynch settled the issue when converting a 46-metre free in the dying moments.

Rodgers top scored with four points as the visitors shared their scores through the contributions of Dillon Staunton, Lynch, Killian Murphy, Sean O’Neill and Graham O’Brien.

On a night when there were six away wins in eight fixtures, Skerries Harps enjoyed their home comforts as they overcame Clanna Gael Fontenoy by 3-13 to 0-5.

The hosts were far from their fluent best over the hour but two goals from Rob Delaney and strong displays by Seán Rocks, Jack Smith and Eoin Wilde saw them home with a fair degree of ease.

They are joined in top spot of Group 3 by a Naomh Mearnóg side that accounted for Pobal Parnell by 1-11 to 2-4 in St David’s.

In Group 4, Scoil Uí Chonaill delivered an inspired final quarter display as they recovered from four points down to beat Fingal Ravens by 2-16 to 1-16 on the Clontarf Road.

The foundation for their win lay at the back with goalkeeper Andy Bunyan making three vital saves while Martin Tierney, Páidí Conlon, Sean Morgan and Brian Fleming also impressed in a defensive capacity for Scoil.

In addition to his defensive duties, Bunyan added five points over the hour with Emmet Rogan (0-6) and Brendan Murray (0-2) also adding impetus to the home scoreboard.

Evan Doyle shone at centrefield throughout and was well worthy of his 1-1 tally while Neil O’Flynn (1-2), Niall Doherty, Robert Kennedy and Conor Maher were instrumental in late comeback.

The final match in a busy evening of action saw St Patrick’s Donabate secure a comfortable 2-22 to 0-7 win against Round Towers Clondalkin at Monastery Road.
