Round-Up: PTSB Dublin IFC Round 2

St Margaret’s registered their opening win in the PTSB Dublin Intermediate Club Football Championship when easing past St Peregrine’s by 1-17 to 0-5 in their Group 1 encounter at Blakestown Road on Saturday evening. 

After falling narrowly to Clann Mhuire in Round 1, Maggies got right back on track with the likes of goalkeeper Jack Murphy, Jack Stynes, Declan Doyle and Damian Murphy all excelling in a defensive capacity. 

Scores were hard to find initially with both teams guilty of some errant shooting but the visitors gradually began to find their range with Brian Shanahan scoring the only goal of the game. 

With Scott Shire controlling centrefield, St Margaret’s began to pull away through 1-3 by Shanahan, five Charlie Madigan points and three Leon Daly scores and were healthy winners by the final whistle courtesy of further points by Murphy, Darren Keogh, Shane Madigan and Ciaran Bruton.  

In Group 2, Ballyboughal picked up their second successive victory with a thrilling 2-16 to 1-18 away win at Garristown. 

The visitors controlled the first-half thanks to strong showings from Will Rafter, Cahal Flynn, Mark Cooper and Willie Flynn while goals by Gerry Seaver and Cian Downey left them well placed at the break (2-9 to 0-6). 

The hosts clawed their way back into contention but fell just short with Seaver (1-6), Cian Casey (0-5), Eoghan Mac Philbín (0-2), Flynn and John Rodgers all landing crucial scores for ‘Boughal. 

At Glenauline Park, St Patrick’s Palmerstown also started on the front foot as they enjoyed a comfortable 0-22 to 1-8 win against St Finian’s Swords. 

The hosts led by 0-15 to 1-3 at half-time with Alan Griffin doing the bulk of the damage as St Finian’s were handed a lifeline before the turnaround with a goal from the penalty spot. 

While the second-half was a more even affair, St Pat’s rarely looked troubled with Griffin’s ten points over the hour augmented by further scoring contributions by Luke McGovern (0-5), Daragh Garrigan (0-3), Adam Lambe (0-2), Cian Walsh and James Dunphy. 

Group 3 saw Man O’War move into top spot in the table following their 1-15 to 1-3 win against Craobh Chairáin and there was another home success in Drumnigh with Trinity Gaels defeating St Finian’s Newcastle by 1-22 to 2-11. 

At Monastery Road, Round Towers Clondalkin bounced back from their Round 1 defeat to Naomh Olaf when accounting for O’Dwyer’s by 1-14 to 0-11. 

In what was a tight and cagey affair, a goal from Harry Leech and points by Darren Gilligan and Tom Galvin saw Towers edge 1-3 to 0-5 ahead. 

The hosts gradually began to put distance between the teams with Ben Casey a hugely influential presence while Conor Flannery and Adam Doyle offered a positive impact when introduced off the bench. 

Olaf’s continue to top the group by virtue of their straightforward 4-14 to 0-8 win against Naomh Fionnbarra in Páirc Uí Bhriain.
