Round-Up: PTSB Dublin Intermediate Club Football Championship Round 1

Last Saturday evening saw the start of the PTSB Dublin Intermediate Club Football Championship with Garristown getting their campaign off to a winning start when overcoming St Finian’s Swords by 1-20 to 1-10 in their Group 2 clash at Ridgewood Park. 

The youthful visitors were full value for their victory with the tone set at the back by Liam Tallon in their full-back line and Liam Shier was equally influential as he delivered a commanding display around the middle third. 

Daire Finn top scored with eight points while Niall O’Brien also sparkled with 1-4 as Garristown’s pace proved too much for the hosts by the final whistle. 

Their reward is a Round 2 clash against a Ballyboughal side that registered a 3-20 to 2-16 home victory over st Pat’s Palmerstown.

The enduring class of Gerry Seaver was evident from the start with his influence reflected in a personal tally of 2-7.  

Cian Downey (1-4) and Cian Casey (1-5) were others to shine in the home attack while Eoghan Mac Philibín and Matthew Farrell chipped in with two points apiece. 

The lively Farrell was part of the ‘Boughal defence that impressed through the efforts of Willie Cooney and Sean Concille and with Cahal Flynn and John Rodgers to the fore at midfield, they secured the win thanks to strong contributions off the bench from Cillian Murphy, Senan Campbell and Ryan Rooney.  

Group 3 saw both Craobh Chiaráin and Man O’War register away wins at St Finian’s Newcastle and Trinity Gaels respectively. 

In Drumnigh, Dan Moore scored a vital goal as Man O’War edged Trinity Gaels by 1-16 to 1-13. 

Moore shared the scoring honours with both Sean Hussey and Conor Dolan while the individual displays of Jack Clancy and Charlie Dolan were enough to get the visitors over the line. 

In Group 4, Naomh Olaf delivered a strong team performance in accounting for Round Towers Clondalkin by 1-17 to 1-11 at Páirc Uí Bhriain. 

The hosts had nine different scorers over the hour with Mark Doyle scoring 1-3 and Niall Manning adding 0-6 and they held firm at the back with Sean O’Driscoll typifying their defensive solidity. 

Naomh Fionnbarra also had six points to spare as they picked up a 1-16 to 1-10 victory over O’Dwyer’s in The Bogies. 

Group 1 produced two thrilling encounters as O’Toole’s and Clann Mhuire did just enough to get the better of St Peregrine’s and St Margaret’s respectively.
