Round Up: PTSB Dublin Premier Intermediate & Intermediate Championship Round 3

Cuala took another progressive step in the PTSB Dublin Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship when overcoming Scoil Uí Chonaill by 0-25 to 1-18 in their entertaining Round 3 encounter on the Clontarf Road on Saturday evening.  

Having edged Naomh Fionnbarra a week previously, the Dalkey outfit built on that victory through early points from Joseph McDonough, Justin Byrne, Callum Dee and Hugh Egan.

The hosts remained in the hunt through the efforts of Barry Cushen as the midfielder landed seven points to ensure a 0-10 apiece stalemate at the interval.

The wind-assisted free-taking of McDonough saw the visitors seize the initiative in the third quarter, building up a six-point advantage in the process but Scoil rallied and deservedly drew level through a superb Fionn Daly goal in the closing stages.

A brace of excellent saves from goalkeeper Cormac Quinn denied the hosts from taking the lead and Cuala finished on the front foot through scores by Colum Sheanon, McDonough and Dee to claim the victory.

Matters were even tighter in The Bogies as Naomh Fionnbarra did just enough to edge previously unbeaten Naomh Olaf by 0-16 to 0-15.

As the scoreline suggests, both defences shone over the hour with Jordan Fitzsimons and Jack Gunnery excelling in the home full-back line.

The efforts of Jay Roe in securing possession around the middle third was another feature of Finbarr’s win with Glen Dodrill’s ten points, including four from play, seeing the hosts home.

Fingallians continue to lead the way at the summit of the table following their 1-27 to 2-17 victory over Setanta while the remaining fixture saw Na Fianna beat Lucan Sarsfields by 4-18 to 2-18.

In the PTSB Intermediate Hurling Championship, St Vincent’s secured their first win of the campaign as they pipped Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels by 2-17 to 2-15 at Páirc Naomh Uinsionn.

Having suffered defeats to O’Toole’s and Kilmacud Crokes in previous weeks, Vinnies got back on track with the likes of Andrew Gilroy, Aaron Dunne and Patrick Donnelly heavily influential throughout.

The home goals came courtesy of Bobby Peel and Ryan Murphy while Ken Ryan landed some crucial points to steer his team over the line.

Kevins are another team that collected their first win with goals proving crucial in their 3-12 to 0-12 victory against Ballyboden St Enda’s in Ballycullen.

There was little to separate the teams in a tight first-half but 1-1 by Jamie Treacy and two John Hennessy points saw the visitors enjoy a marginal lead at the turnaround.

A Declan Power goal saw Kevins increase their lead early in the second-half and while Ballyboden struck back with five unanswered points, Power’s second goal and further scores by Dan O’Loughlin, Hennessy and Adam Mitchell eased the away side to a deserved triumph. 

Elsewhere, Round Towers Clondalkin continue to post high-scoring tallies as they claimed their third win on the bounce when beating Crumlin by 4-23 to 3-12 while O’Toole’s moved into second spot in the table as they eased past Kilmacud Crokes by 2-18 to 1-12.
