The line-up for the quarter-finals of the PTSB Dublin Senior 1 Hurling Championship was confirmed over the weekend with the final group games taking place across Friday and Saturday.
On Saturday afternoon, unbeaten heavyweights Kilmacud Crokes and Na Fianna locked horns at Parnell Park with Crokes scoring two late goals to secure a flattering 4-17 to 1-16 victory.
The contest sparked into life towards the end of the first-half as Na Fianna’s Brian Ryan picked up two bookings in quick succession with Alex Considine netting in added time to leave Kilmacud well-placed at 1-10 to 0-8 by the turnaround.
Eoghan McHugh and Dara Purcell traded goals midway through the third quarter and while Sean Currie’s free-taking brought Na Fianna back to within two points in the final quarter,Crokes put the icing on the cake courtesy of goals in added time from Ger Veale and Ronan Hayes.
Earlier in Donnycarney, Cuala completed their fifth win on the bounce with late points by Kevin Kirwan, Sean Moran and Donal O’Shea helping them overtake Ballyboden St Enda’s by 2-16 to 1-17.
Ballyboden entered the break leading by 1-9 to 1-8 with a George O’Toole goal for Cuala in the 17th minute cancelled out at the opposite end by Darragh Kenny within four minutes.
St Enda’s deservedly maintained that narrow lead for the bulk of the second-half but were unable to finish the job as O’Toole’s second goal prompted a late Cuala comeback that consigned their opponents to a relegation play-off.
Lucan Sarsfields made sure of second spot in the table as first-half goals by Paul Crummey, Sean Harkness and Ciaran Dowling set them on course for a facile 4-23 to 1-12 win over Faughs in O’Toole Park.
Faughs goalkeeper Eoghan McNamara netted a penalty early in the second-half but with Chris Crummey and Killian Costello scoring four points apiece, Lucan eased home through a fourth goal by substitute Senan Bolger.
Matters were far tighter in the second part of the Kimmage double-header as St Jude’s claimed a vital 0-21 to 0-19 win against St Brigid’s, confirming their place in the last eight as a result.
Jude’s led by 0-11 to 0-10 at half-time through scores from Callum Graham, Cathal Martin, Diarmuid McLoughlin, John Carty and Joe McManus with Brigid’s staying in the hunt through the scoring returns of Paul Winters and Cian O’Sullivan.
That duo combined for fourteen points over the hour but with the contest destined for a draw, Jude’s struck late through Graham and Matthew Hade to claim a deserved victory.
The action began on Friday night with Whitehall Colmcille securing their place in the knockout stages as they overcame Erin’s Isle by 0-21 to 0-16 in their Group 1 encounter at Parnell Park.
Erin’s Isle were quickest into their stride in the first-half and they enjoyed a deserved 0-12 to 0-8 interval lead with Michael Donohoe’s four points augmented by three Tadhg Gorman scores.
Whitehall’s response in the second-half was admirable, boosted as they were by the return of Eoghan O’Donnell to their starting line-up and his five points from play, augmented by nine Paddy Spellacy frees saw them ease home against 13-man Isles.
