Round-Up: PTSB Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship

Naomh Barróg remain unbeaten in the PTSB Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship after overcoming St Patrick’s Donabate by 0-20 to 0-15 in their Group 2 encounter at Páirc Barrógon Saturday evening. 

There was never much to separate the teams in the first-half with the visitors starting brightly through points by Dylan Knight Sands and Tadg McDonald before Barróg seized control thanks to scores from Paul Tolan, Dara Mistéal, Eoin Harte and Killian Foran. 

St Pat’s rallied courtesy of two-pointers by Stephen Dempsey and Clyde Burke with points at the opposite end from Mistéal and Ryan Alexander prompting a 0-9 apiece stalemate at the break.  

The contest resumed in a tense manner before the hosts put daylight between the teams through two-pointers from Aodhán Ó Donnchú and Tolan and their goalkeeper Killian Wallace made two outstanding saves in the final quarter to preserve his team’s lead.  

The other game in Group 2 saw Round Towers Lusk, who drew with Barróg in Round 1,keep their campaign alive as they overcame St Mary’s by 2-19 to 2-17 in Saggart. 

After a tough league campaign, Towers are gradually finding their form and the talented Cormac Howley led the way on Saturday with a personal tally of 0-14. 

Aaron Naughton and Darragh Kilduff came up with crucial goals for the visitors while further scores by Jack Hussey, Mark Hanratty, Darragh Kelly and Rory O’Brien got them over the line.

Group 4 will go right down to the wire as St Vincent’s and St Brigid’s recorded home victories over St Anne’s and St Sylvester’s respectively. 

In Russell Park, goals proved pivotal for the hosts with Scott Daly (2), Andrew Waldron and the evergreen Philly Ryan all netting in their 4-11 to 0-17 success. 

Meanwhile, in Páirc Naomh Uinsionn, St Vincent’s moved into second spot in the table as they eased past St Anne’s by 4-21 to 0-12. 

After drawing with Syls in Round 1, the hosts controlled matters after a cagey start with Shane O’Leary impressing at the back while Darragh Cummins provided strong leadership around the middle third. 

Vinnies gradually took control of matters with Cian Dunne, Peter Costello and Michael O’Rowe doing the bulk of the damage on the scoreboard. 

In Group 1, Fingal Ravens secured their second win on the bounce when beating Erin’s Isle by 2-17 to 2-10 while Pobal Parnell had two points to spare against Naomh Mearnóg (0-13 to 0-11).    

The action commenced on Thursday night as St Maur’s and Scoil Uí Chonaill secured their first points of the campaign as they shared a 1-13 to 0-16 draw in Rush

Scores were at a premium all evening with the free-taking of Scoil goalkeeper Andy Bunyan a valuable source throughout as he kicked no less than five two-pointers from placed balls. 

The visitors impressed through the efforts of Brian Fleming, Eoghan O’Connell and Brian Murray while the lively Sean O’Flaherty, Fionn Daly, Emmet Rogan and Rob Kennedy augmented Bunyan’s ten-point tally. 

The hosts stayed in touch through a penalty converted by Chris Carthy and with Cian Savage, Conor McGuire, Carthy and Karl Flynn chipping in with two points apiece, they did enough to gain a share of spoils through further scores by Jack Burke, David Carthy, Adam Kennedy, Donagh McNamara and the influential Davy McGuinness. 

Elsewhere in Group 3, Fingallians moved into top spot as they accounted for Clanna Gael Fontenoy by 0-15 to 0-9 at Sean Moore Park.
