Round Up: PTSB Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship Round 3

Round Towers Lusk secured their place in the quarter-finals of the PTSB Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship following their impressive 1-23 to 2-14 victory over St Pat’s Donabate in their Group 2 encounter at Thomas Ashe Park on Saturday afternoon. 

Cormac Howley was in fine form for the hosts as he kicked five points, a brace of two-pointers from play and a two-point free to finish with 0-11 to his name. 

Evan Fergson (1-3) also caught the eye in attack with his 35th minute goal proving crucial while Towers built up an unassailable lead thanks to further scoring returns by Darragh Kilduff, Jack Hussey, Ryan Caul, Stephen Moore, Mark Hanratty and Darragh Kelly. 

Their full-back line was immense in the second-half as the visitors placed concerted pressure on their goal as the hosts advanced to a last-eight meeting against Erin’s Isle. 

Naomh Barróg join Towers despite suffering a 1-18 to 0-13 home reverse against St Mary’s Saggart, who now face a relegation play-off against Naomh Mearnóg. 

Clanna Gael Fontenoy clinched the second qualifying berth in Group 3 when narrowly overcoming Scoil Uí Chonaill by 1-14 to 0-15 at Clontarf Road. 

With scores hard to come by, both Darragh McDonnell and Dean Holmes were pivotal figures in the away defence with Rory Tobin more than playing his part in midfield. 

Conor Hennessy and Jack Flanagan were the pick of the Clanna Gael attack with Oisin Darcy’s goal worth its weight in gold by the final whistle.

Fingallians confirmed top spot in the group following their 0-22 to 3-13 draw with St Maur’s in Rush with Stephen Hickey, Conor Kelly and Graham O’Brien all netting for the visitors.    

In Group 4, St Brigid’s finished in top spot as they maintained their unbeaten record when drawing with St Vincent’s (3-13 to 1-19) in Russell Park. 

After wins against St Anne’s and St Sylvester’s, the Blanchardstown side were pushed all the way by a Vinnies side determined to progress to the last eight. 

Scott Daly top scored for the hosts with 2-4 with the scoring returns of Ronan McLoughlin (1-0), Mark Donnelly (0-3) and Conor Watt (0-3) enough to secure a share of the spoils. 

Across in Bohernabreena, Syls sent St Anne’s into a relegation play-off as they eased to a comprehensive 4-26 to 2-11 victory, finishing third in the group in the process. 

Group 1 saw Fingal Ravens advance undefeated as they drew with Pobal Parnell by 1-16 to 0-19 with Erin’s Isle finishing in second spot courtesy of their 3-8 to 0-8 away victory at Naomh Mearnóg.
