Round-Up: PTSB Dublin SFC 2 Round 1

The PTSB Dublin Senior 2 Football Championship commenced on Saturday evening withClanna Gael Fontenoy getting off to a winning start when overcoming St Maur’s by 2-13 to 1-13 in their Group 3 clash at Sean Moore Park. 

In a tight, tense encounter, the home goals from Cian Nannery and David McMahon proved hugely valuable while Oisín Darcy kept the Clanna Gael scoreboard ticking over from placed balls. 

Rory Tobin and Conor Hennessy showed well throughout at midfield with Dean Holmes in defence and attacker Ronan McGrath enjoying influential hours for the winners. 

They will now meet Fingallians in Round 2 after the Swords outfit overcame Scoil Uí Chonaill by 2-15 to 0-15 at Lawless Park. 

In Group 1, Fingal Ravens dominated from the outset on their way to a comfortable 1-22 to 0-13 victory over Naomh Mearnóg in Páirc Mearnóg. 

The visitors seized the initiative through their midfield pairing of Brian Gleeson and Eoghan Daly with points from Sean Kinsella, Jake Pope, Dylan Kettle and Niall Daly leaving them 0-11 to 0-3 ahead by half-time. 

Ravens maintained that momentum in the early stages of the second-half thanks to further scores by Niall Daly, Gleeson and Pope and they effectively settled the issue at the end of the third quarter following a goal by team captain Daire O’Rourke. 

Goalkeeper Alan Lee impressed in keeping a clean sheet while further gloss was added to the final scoreline thanks to two points apiece by substitutes Simon Maguire and James Farrell. 

Their reward is a Round 2 encounter against Erin’s Isle, who beat Pobal Parnell by 3-14 to 1-8 at Farnham Drive. 

In Group 2, St Patrick’s Donabate finished on the front foot as they got the better of St Mary’s Saggart by 2-16 to 3-7 in their all-AFL1 fixture at Robbie Farrell Park.

Tadg McDonald was handed his Championship debut alongside goalkeeper Brian Collins, Aidan Bukovec and Conor O’Leary and his goal in the first-quarter saw St Pat’s take control of matters. 

The hosts continued to impress through the defensive efforts of Darren Maher, Adam Darby and Tom Walsh while Conor Moore enjoyed a strong showing around the middle third. 

Stephen Dempsey’s goal saw St Pat’s take a 2-6 to 2-1 interval lead and they made sure of their victory through points from Dylan Knight Sands and Ciaran Shields with substitutes Sean Turner, Adam Conroy and Ollie Brooks all scoring off the bench. 

The other match in the group went right down to the wire with Round Towers Lusk and Naomh Barróg forced to settle for a share of the spoils as they drew by 1-17 to 2-14. 

There was another draw in Broomfield as St Sylvester’s and St Vincent’s could not be separated, finishing 0-15 to 1-12, with St Brigid’s taking top spot in Group 4 by virtue of their 1-15 to 0-9 win against St Anne’s in Bohernabreena.
