There was a thrilling conclusion to events at Sancta Maria as Round Towers Clondalkin pipped Ballyboden St Enda’s by 1-9 to 0-10 in their PTSB Dublin Adult Football League Division 3 encounter on Tuesday night.
The victory saw Towers leapfrog their opponents into joint top spot, a position they share with Na Fianna and a St Margaret’s side that overcame St Sylvester’s by 2-15 to 1-6.
There was never much to separate the teams as the hosts led by 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time but with experienced defenders Dan Gregg and Barry Keane excelling, the visitors edged home through a superb double save from a penalty by Gary Cleary while Ben Casey scrambled home a rebound for the game’s only goal.
Ballyboughal haven’t given up hope of promotion and they continue to place pressure on the leading group following their comfortable 3-16 to 0-12 home win against O’Dwyer’s.
The home goals came through John Rodgers (1-1), Gerry Seaver (1-4) and Dean Corless (1-1) while both Cian Downey and Eoghan Mac Philibín impressed with three points apiece.
David Downey was his usual solid self between the sticks with Rodgers, Jordan Hoey, Ryan Rooney and Mark Cooper ensuring there was no way back for O’Dwyer’s.
At the opposite end of the table, Clontarf ended their losing run as they enjoyed a 1-14 to 1-5 win against Naomh Fionnbarra in St Anne’s Park.
Despite falling behind early on, the hosts led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break with four Rory Goode points augmented by further scores by Eoghan Doody, Morgan Walsh and Dave Egan.
Clontarf resumed on the front foot through the defensive efforts of Ciaran Delargy, Paddy O’Grady, Liam Cody and Feo Dodd and with Goode increasing their lead when netting at the end of the third quarter, they eased home through a two-pointer from Ben Chesney.

In AFL4, St Patrick’s Palmerstown got their promotion push back on track as they got the better of Ballinteer St John’s by 4-10 to 2-11 in Glenauline Park.
Having lost their previous match to high-flying St Pat’s Donabate, the hosts trailed by 1-6 to 1-5 at the break but powered home to preserve their one-point lead at the top of the table.
Conor McHugh bagged a brace of goals for the winners and with Cian McGrane (1-3) and Daragh Garrigan (1-0) also raising green flags, St Pat’s took the honours courtesy of further scores by Luke McGovern (0-3), Garbhán Gallagher, Seamus Whelan and James Dunphy.
Man O’War remain in the promotion conversation as they picked up their third win on the bounce when enjoying a 1-18 to 1-12 home win over Fingal Ravens.
Sean Hussey and Dan Moore did the bulk of the home scoring while Jason McGlynn and Jack Clancy were equally influential as Man O’War cemented joint-second spot with their ninth win of the campaign.
That loss for Ravens leaves them in a precarious position at the bottom of the table, especially after Good Counsel/Liffey Gaels moved further away from the trap door when beating O’Toole’s by 3-10 to 0-16 at Galtymore Road.
The clean sheet secured by the hosts was crucial to their success with goalkeeper Jamie Devine in fine form between the sticks and he was offered great protection over the hour from the likes of Shane Kirby and James Nolan.
Fiachra Corry caught the eye with his aerial ability at midfield as Good Counsel/Liffey Gaelsmade sure of their win thanks to goals by the tireless Adam Quinn, Dean Blood and Jack Seery.
