SFC2 semi-finals set to provide plenty of excitement

Fri, 25th October 2019

Saturday's Dublin SFC2 semi-finals in O'Toole Park promise plenty of excitement with promotion to the top-flight the prize on offer.

Templeogue Synge Street face Whitehall Colmcille in the first game (1.30).

Synger defeated St Maur's 5-10 to 3-8 in their quarter-final having won all three games in Group 2 earlier in their campaign (against Erin's Isle, Nh Mearnóg and St Anne's).

Killian O'Gara hit 2-1 for Templeogue Synge Street last time out with Ger Vickery and Niall Scully also doing well in their forward division.

Opponents on Saturday, Whitehall Colmcille, hit the ground running in their quarter-final when they scored three goals inside the opening 15 minutes on their way to defeating Fingal Ravens 5-13 to 0-14 with Dublin footballer Cormac Costello and Dublin hurler Eoghan O'Donnell to the fore.

Whitehall finished second in Group 3, behind Round Tower Lusk, after losing to Lusk but recording victories over both Nh Olaf and St Pat's, Palmerstown.

The second semi-final on Saturday will see Round Tower, Lusk face Cuala (3.30).

The Lusk men, who topped Group 3 with a 100 per record, overcame St Mary's, Saggart 1-19 to 2-10 in their quarter-final with Cormac Howley tallying 0-9 and freetaker Liam Bohan hitting 0-8.

Kyle Connell got Tower's only goal while Aaron Duffy, a member of this year's TG4 Underdogs panel, did well in defence.

The O'Callaghan brothers Niall and Con led the scoring for Cuala in their 4-11 to 1-10 quarter-final victory over Nh Mearnóg.

The Dalkey side, who finished on top of Group 1 with victories over Round Tower Clondalkin, St Maur's and Fingallians, were too strong on their inside forward line with Niall (two) and Con contributing three of their goals.

Cuala had three players in this year's All-Ireland SFC winning panel in Con O'Callaghan, Michael FItzsimons and Peadar O Cofaigh Byrne, who also won a Leinster U20FC this season.
