SHC ‘A’ wins for Ballyboden and Craobh in Group 3

Thu, 6th September 2018

Ballyboden St Enda's booked top spot of the Dublin SHC 'A' Group 3 with their 1-18 to 0-14 victory over Cuala in Parnell Park on Wednesday night.

The Cuala side, who lined out without both their Dublin senior footballers Con O'Callaghan and Mark Schutte, had also guaranteed their berth in the last-eight prior to last night's match and do so as the second-placed team.

The reigning Dublin, Leinster and All-Ireland champions Cuala started well and points from brothers Sean and David Treacy, who finished with a tally of 0-8 (0-5f, 0-1 '65'), helped them into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead inside seven minutes.

But the accuracy of Paul Ryan brought Boden back into contention before Aidan Mellett hit the only goal of the game in the 17th minute to help St Enda's to a 1-10 to 0-10 interval lead.

Three minutes into the second-half Cuala had the opportunity to get right back in the game but David Treacy's penalty was stopped by Gary Maguire.

in the earlier game a personal tally of 2-2 from Billy Ryan saw Craobh Chiarain defeat St Brigid's 3-14 to 2-12, also in SHC 'A' Group 3.

Both of Ryan's goals came in the opening half (second and 24th minutes) as Craobh led 2-7 to 0-5 with five minutes to play in the opening half.

Alan McCrabbe was helping the scoreboard tick and he finished the night with a tally of 0-6 (0-4f).

However, by the interval the Russell Park side had closed the gap to 2-8 to 1-8 following James O'Connell's 25th minute goal and a long-range free from keeper Alan Nolan.

Seven minutes into the second half Brigid's had edged in front following Eoghan Dunne's goal - the talented young forward finished with 1-3 from play.

But it was to be Craobh's night as Robbie Mahon's late goal confirmed victory for the Donnycarney men.
