SHC wins for Na Fianna and Kilmacud in Group 2

SHC wins for Na Fianna and Kilmacud in Group 2

Fri, 6th April 2018

Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes recorded victories on the opening night of the 2018 Dublin SHC at Parnell Park.

The Mobhi Road men finished with a scoring flurry to defeat Whitehall Colmcille, 1-28 to 0-20, in their Group 2 encounter.

However, the game was far more balanced than the final scoreline suggests with Whitehall leading for their fair share of the way before Na Fianna accelerated for the finishing tape.

Seán Gray, who finished with a personal tally of 0-8 (0-4f), starred for Whitehall Colmcille in the opening half as they led 0-12 to 0-9 at the break after a see-saw opening 30 minutes.

But Na Fianna improved on the restart when reeling off four points in-a-row through Gavin King, Seán Ryan and two from the influential Eoghan McHugh.

McHugh was Na Fianna's top-scorer with 0-7 from play, six coming in the second half while Donal Burke (0-6, 0-2f) and Colin Currie (0-5, 0-3f) also contributed to the scoring tally.

The only goal of the game came three minutes from the end of normal time when Peter Feeney was on target as Na Fianna ran out 11-point victors.

In the second Dublin SHC Group 2 encounter at the Donnycarney venue on Thursday night Kilmacud Crokes cruised to a 0-24 to 1-6 victory over Nh Fionnbarra, who lined out without injured Dublin senior Eamonn Dillon.

Crokes, who this year are managed by former Dublin and Clare manager and two-time All-Ireland SHC winner, Anthony Daly, were 0-16 to 0-5 clear at the break with the accuracy of Fergal Whitely and Oisín O'Rorke to the fore.

With 15 minutes remaining Dylan Owens scored the only goal of the clash for the Cabra side.
