U15 footballers toppled by Cavan in Gerry Reilly quarter-final

CAVAN 6-15 DUBLIN 1-17

A powerful second-half saw Cavan defeat Dublin in last Sunday night's Gerry Reilly U16 Football Tournament quarter-final in Oldcastle, Meath.

The first half was end to end play with both sides creating great scores.

Dublin were on the board first with a Sean Kinsella while Dublin also hit the crossbar in the early exchanges.

Cavan responded with four points - two each from Caoimhin McGovern and Finntan O'Reilly by the sixth minute.

Dublin's responded with five points of their own on the spin.

But the momentum swung back the way of the Breffni Blues who put together a run of scores.

The Dublin struck for the only goal of the opening half when following a great run by Conor Archer, Ryan O'Dwyer blasted to the Cavan net and by the interval Dublin had moved 1-7 to 0-9 in front thanks to a free from Sean Kinsella.

Dublin moved three points clear early in the second half before a slick Cavan move finished with a goal from Darryl McGurren.

Cavan kicked on then and added four more goals over the next 15 minutes to run out winners.

Cavan's Evan Kelly was presented with the 'Man of the match award by Martin Blake (Briody Bedding Limited - Sponsor).

Cavan play Longford in the semi-final next weekend.
