DOWN 3-9 DUBLIN 1-13

Goals win matches. Dublin's under-16 footballers were beaten in their second game of the Gerry Reilly Football Tournament in Abbotstown on Saturday afternoon.

Fresh from their encouraging victory over Kildare in their previous game the Dubs travel north to face Antrim in their last group game.

Dermot Donaldson's 12th minute goal gave Down a strong foothold in the game but Dublin recovered and with points from Alex Rogers, Luke Curran (son for former Dublin senior footballer Paul), Conor Tyrell, Adam Mulligan and Oliver Brooks edged in front with five minutes remaining in the opening half.

However, Down struck for their second goal through Adam Crimmins to lead 2-4 to 0-7 at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half Ronan Connor put Down into a eight-point lead, 3-7 to 0-8.

Dublin battled to the finish and cut the gap to two points following a Kieran Conroy goal but the clock defied them as Down ran out victors.
