U20 footballers face Kerry next in John Kerins Cup

Fri, 7th June 2019

Dublin U20 footballers continue their John Kerins Cup (U20 Football Development League) campaign when they face Kerry this Saturday in Claughaun GAA club, Limerick (3.15).

The game forms part of an U20 double-header with Cork and Galway meeting earlier (1.30), also in the John Kerins Cup.

The Dubs have recorded one win and one draw in their two games in the tournament to date, a competition which provides the Dublin management team with the opportunity to run the rule over their squad prior to their Leinster U20FC clash with Longford on Tuesday, July 2 in Glennon Bros Pearse Park, Longford.

In their opening game Dublin defeated Kildare 2-14 to 0-14 in St Conleth's Park, Newbridge with Dublin getting off to an electric start to lead 2-8 to 0-2 after just over 20 minutes with Niall O'Leary and Ciarán Archer getting the goals.

However, the hosts closed the gap to five points just past the midpoint of the second half, 2-11 to 0-12, but crucially Dublin did not let them in for a goal with Darren Maher doing well in the Dublin defence.

In their second tie against Cork in the Laois GAA Centre of Excellence, Portlaoise 13-man Dublin came from three points in arrears late on to earn a draw, 1-18 each, thanks to points from James Doran and Brian O'Leary (two).

Dublin's remaining schedule in the John Kerins Cup is - Rd 3: v Kerry, Saturday June 8, Claughaun GAA, LImerick (3.15); Rd 4: Bye; Rd 5: v Galway, Saturday June 15, venue/time to be confirmed.
