DUBLIN 3-15
MEATH 0-10
Dublin began their Fulfil Leinster Under 20 Hurling Championship campaign on a positive note as they defeated Meath by fourteen points at Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors arrived on the back of comfortable victories against Antrim and Carlow respectively but they found themselves trailing by 2-6 to 0-6 at half-time with both goals coming through Callum Graham.
Dublin pushed on after the break with Darragh Kilduff effectively settling the issue with a poacher’s finish in the 33rd minute and a plethora of late points saw them finish the contest in a dominant manner.
It was Meath that opened the scoring through Mark Leavy in the 1st minute with Daniel O’Kelly levelling matters in an instant with a fine point from distance.
Meath spurned a number of chances of adding to their tally as they opened up brightly but much of their good work was undone in the 7th minute as Tom Higgins burst through from deep and Graham was on hand to crash home across Conor Cummins from eight yards.
The visitors responded well to this setback through successive scores by Leavy and Louis McIvor (free) but they suffered another body blow at the end of the first quarter.
A long diagonal ball was fielded superbly by Graham and the St Jude’s attacker never looked likely to miss as he left Cummins helpless for the second occasion.
Both teams struggled for accuracy in the breezy conditions but McIvor kept the Meath scoreboard ticking over while Rory Duffy, O’Kelly and Kilduff all popped over points at the opposite end.
The aerial ability of Dublin’s Tommy Cullen was a highlight of the opening-half as the Dubs entered the break on a positive note thanks to a fine score by full-forward Aron Gargan.
