The Leinster SFC gets talked down in some quarters but certainly not by Dublin footballer Eric Lowndes.

This Sunday the holders are hoping to make it eight provincial titles on the bounce as the Dubs face Laois in Croke Park (4.0).

It's a game the St Peregrine's defender is really looking forward to as he establishes himself more on the senior intercounty stage.

"When I was growing up Dublin weren't winning Leinster Championships with any regularity," says Eric.

"It was a massive celebration back then and still is for us.

"We are all aware of the transitions in counties and how success doesn't last forever so we are all driving it on."

Eric knows how tough the battle is to firstly get onto the Dublin panel and then to make the match-day squad and ultimately the starting 15.

"It’s not just about getting (the jersey). It’s not that you’ve arrived once you have it," he stresses.

“It’s about holding on to it as well, really driving standards to the next level as well.

“As everyone knows, we have lots of competition in there.

“When we’re going training, we’re all aware whoever is performing well is going to play, and it’s great when you’re in that position, performing well.

“It’s maybe up to guys who are outside then trying to get in. And we all know how difficult that can be.”
