The last four in the Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin Senior 1 Hurling Championship were decided over the weekend with holders Na Fianna booking their semi-final spot following a thrilling 2-37 to 2-34 extra-time victory over Cuala at Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon.
The teams finished deadlocked at 2-28 apiece at full-time with Na Fianna leading by 2-15 to 1-14 at half-time courtesy of goals from Dónal Burke and Seán Currie.
Cuala continued to impress after the break and were buoyed as substitute Conall O’Toole netted in the 54th minute with three points from fellow substitute George O’Toole ensuring the stalemate at full-time.
It took the experience of Na Fianna to see them over the line as Colin Currie, who finished with 0-13, added four frees in extra-time to complete a far from routine win for the All-Ireland champions.
In the first leg of the Donnycarney doubleheader, Lucan Sarsfields dominated events in the second-half to defeat St Brigid’s by 2-22 to 1-16.
The sides were deadlocked at 0-9 apiece at the break but a trio of points from midfielder Colm Walsh saw them assume control in the early stages of the third quarter.
Despite losing Sean Harkness to a second yellow card in the 46th minute, Lucan continued to threaten with goals from Paul Crummey and substitute David Mulqueen sealing a deserved success.
The first team to book their semi-final place were Kilmacud Crokes, who pulled away in the second-half on their way to a comprehensive 3-27 to 0-18 win against Naomh Barróg on Saturday afternoon.
An even opening quarter eventually saw Crokes take control of matters with five Oisín O’Rorke points and a trio of scores from play from Alex Considine prompting a 0-14 to 0-9 interval lead.
Any hopes that Barróg had were extinguished within five minutes of the second-half as Brian Hayes and Brendan Kenny raced through for well-taken goals.
The Kilbarrack side continued to battle with Joe Flanagan impressing once again with a personal haul of thirteen points but four Fergal Whitely points and 1-3 from substitute Michael Roche eased Kilmacud home by double scores.
It proved far tighter later in the day as Ballyboden St Enda’s edged St Vincent’s by 1-31 to 2-27 after extra-time.
A 14th minute Darragh Kenny goal saw Boden into a deserved 1-13 to 0-12 interval lead but with Conor Dooley from St Enda’s and Mark Sweeney of St Vincent’s seeing red after the break, Vinnies clawed their way back through a Darach McBride goal.
Both teams spurned chances in a thrilling conclusion and while Kenny looked to have sealed Boden’s progress when converting a 64th minute free, Conor Burke replied three minutes later to ensure a 1-24 apiece stalemate at full-time.
Niall McMorrow, who finished with 0-6, and Kenny pushed Ballyboden three points clear midway through extra-time and further points from Fionn Murphy and Luke McDwyer built a sufficient buffer to mitigate against Burke’s late goal at the opposite end.
