We are under no illusions facing Longford: Dessie Farrell

Tue, 21st March 2017

Dublin U21 football manager, Dessie Farrell, knows that his side will have to be at the best to overcome Longford in Wednesday night's EirGrid Leinster U21FC semi-final in Lakepoint Park (St Loman's GAA club), Mullingar (7.30).

Longford defeated a highly fancied Kildare outfit in their quarter-final away and will be well buoyed up for the clash with the Dubs.

“I have seen a fair bit of Longford this year and they are a team that have impressed me a lot," says Dessie.

“I saw them during the Hastings Cup and they are very strong down the middle with a solid midfield and a very strong centre-back.

“They also have a couple of lively corner-forwards and of course, they will play with a fair degree of confidence after their win over Kildare.

“They have a very good defensive structure and on the night, Kildare struggled to deal with that.

“Of course, Kildare are an excellent team in their own right and would have been one of the favourites in Leinster this year so for Longford to beat them in the manner that they did highlights the challenge that awaits us.

“We are under no illusions as to what lies ahead of us and we need to be as prepared as we can for dealing with the challenge that Longford present,” adds Dessie.
